Preparation: High School Sophomores

Timeline

Your sophomore year is an excellent year to prepare for acceptance to college. Work hard and take the appropriate classes in order to ensure your acceptance and success at LSU Alexandria. These tips may help you while you are thinking about college:

  • Speak with your guidance counselor. Understand and follow the TOPS core and Regents' core curriculum. Not only will this curricula help you apply for free tuition at any Louisiana public university, it will help you gain acceptance to the University.
  • Attend meetings with college representatives who visit your high school. Take these meetings seriously and keep the information that you collect.
  • Visit college Websites to see what majors are available and think about how they fit your interests. You can view the LSU Alexandria General Catalog and click on "Academic Departments" on the LSUA Website.
  • Now is the time to prepare for taking the ACT. Talk to your guidance counselor about taking the PLAN test offered through ACT. The PLAN test will give you an idea of what to expect on the ACT. Challenging courses in high school will help prepare you for college. Don't avoid math courses--you'll only have to take them in college!
  • Keep track of any activities you are involved in. Maintaining good grades and taking part in extracurricular activities help with scholarhip applications.
  • Write down questions you have about college. Discuss these with your guidance counselor or e-mail: uSkk5hCXW8@ziJD.edu.
  • Ask college students about their experiences and suggestions they may have for you. They will be willing to share information and can recommend taking certain courses in high school to prepare for university courses. Check out the Student Meet Student section of the LSU Alexandria admissions Website.
  • Remember that what you do now will affect your future. Universities review high school transcripts carefully.
