Myths

  1. “I can’t afford to go to college.”
If you have the desire to get an education, then there are many financial options available to you. LSU Alexandria has one of the lowest tuitions of the four year universities in the state. Louisiana graduates may have their tuition paid for by the state if they excel in high school and take college preparation classes through the Tuition Opportunity Program (TOPS). LSU Alexandria students can also qualify for federal PELL grants and student loans. Please contact the LSU Alexandria Financial Aid to make an appointment with an advisor to see what your financial options are.

  2. “You should know what your major is before you apply.”
It’s okay to enter college “undecided” about your major. Many our our new students come to LSUA with two or three majors they are considering and several come to LSUA unsure about which major to choose. Part of the college experience is taking courses in areas that you have never been introduced to. College is the time to discover what fits you best and take a variety of courses to determine the major that is right for you. LSUA students take a variety of general education courses that are required by all majors. Each student also has a number of courses to take as electives. These electives help clarify your interests and will assist you in determining what your major should be. The LSUA Student Services Office offers career counseling and aptitude testing to current and potential students. You can contact the Student Services for more information and to schedule an aptitude test.

  3. “I’m on my own at college.”
While you may be away from home for the first time, you are not on your own at LSU Alexandria. Our faculty, staff, and administration are dedicated to making you feel at home and welcomed to our campus. Most of our faculty are frequently seen eating with students in the Magnolia Café and hold open office hours to meet with students. Student Organizations encourage participation which helps new students make friends quickly.

  4. “I’m too old to go to college.”
LSU Alexandria has students of all ages. Many of our students are on their second or third career change. Students that come back to school after several years help to make our campus diverse and are often some of our most successful students!
